Whipped Coffee Recipe (2024)

Whipped coffee also known as Dalogna coffee isa South Korean coffee treat that has been getting all the craze in the past few weeks. I’ve been seeing it all over the Internet, and apparently, it became so popular after someone posted a tiktok video on how to make it. So since we’re all stuck at home and can’t go to our favorite coffee shops, it’s time to try this super easy but fun to make, delicious, and fancy-looking whipped coffeeat home!

Whipped Coffee Recipe (1)

If you’re a coffee lover like me and want to learn about a great way to make coffee, I have an excellent tutorial on how to use a French press!

How to Make Whipped Coffee?

I don’t think that I’ve ever made a cup of coffee that is as aesthetically pleasing as this coffee looks. It truly feels and tastes like a barista-style coffee that I order when I’m out, but this basically costs nothing to make and it’s really fun to create! So here’s my whipped coffee recipe for you to try!

The Ingredients

I don’t really know how the chemistry of this whipped coffee works, or how these simple ingredients end up creating that shiny velvety, and fluffy whipped cream-like mixture, but here’s what you need:

  • Instant coffee (I use Nescafe)
  • Granulated sugar
  • Water

The Instructions

In a medium-sized bowl, mix the sugar, with the coffee granules and hot water. I recommend using a bowl rather than trying to do that in a mug or jug, and for speed definitely use an electric hand mixer.

You could use a whisk if that’s what you have available, but it will take longer for the stiff peaks to form.

When you first start mixing, it will be a dark brown mixture, but the color will change the longer you whip it up for. Once you reach a fluffy smooth cream-like texture that is light in color, that means that your dalogna coffee is ready.

How to Serve Dalgona Coffee?

Spoon it over hot or cold milk or water. You can add vanilla extract to your milk, to make it even fancier. But my favorite way to serve it is over iced coconut milk.

Whipped Coffee Recipe (4)

Of course, the idea is to mix the whipped coffee with the milk before you drink as otherwise it will be a bit overpowering and there’s just milk underneath it. So give it a quick mix, and enjoy!

If you serve it over warm frothed milk as I did in the picture below (I used soy milk), the top will have a lovely fancy consistency that you’re going to love. Honestly, much better than an expensive coffee that you can get at a coffee shop.

You can also serve this drink over cold milk to make an iced coffee. Just add a few ice cubes to a glass, top with your favorite cold milk, followed by the whipped coffee and a sprinkle of ground cinnamon!

Success Tips

  • Use a bowl to mix the coffee mixture, rather than a mug, jug, or jar. First, it will be easier to whip it up when using a bowl. Also, whisking in a bowl means incorporating more air in the mixture that will create that frothy and fluffy consistency.
  • It’s recommended to use an electric hand or stand mixer. You can use a whisk if you like, but honestly, we’ve tried that and a) it takes forever to whip up the mixture, and b) it won’t be as fluffy.
  • Do not try this using a fork or a spoon, it won’t work.
  • Use hot water instead of cold. Whilst both hot and cold water can work, we’ve had better results using hot water as it helps dissolve the sugar and the coffee granules to create a super creamy texture.
  • Use Instant coffee, and ground coffee will not work. I’ve used Nescafe granules to make my drink for this post, and it worked very well.
  • For decaf, just use decaf coffee instead.

Can I Reduce the Amount of Sugar?

I tried cutting the sugar amount in half, and it worked but it wasn’t as creamy as the mixture that I made with more sugar. So you’ll basically end up with soft peaks rather than stiff peaks. You can also use sugar alternatives such as stevia.

Brown sugar works well too.

Can I Refrigerate it to use later?

You can, and it will keep well in the fridge for a couple of days. But the longer you keep it in the fridge, the softer it will become. So I recommend consuming it within 48 hours of whipping.
