Amateur Career

George went to New Britain High School, but after a year transferred to Avon Old Farms School in Avon, Connecticut, and joined the school’s baseball team. Although chosen in the 48^th round of the MLB Draft in 2008 by the Minnesota Twins, George turned down the offer as he didn’t consider himself ready. Instead he enrolled into the University of Connecticut, and continued playing baseball for the Connecticut Huskies team. Distinguishing himself as a player, George was eventually named to First Team All-American, and won the 2011 Big East Conference Player of the Year Award.

Professional Career – Minor Leagues

George’s professional playing career began when he was selected as the 11th overall pick in the first round of the 2011 MLB Draft by the Houston Astros.
