Terrorized my 6 year old

I feel like a terrible mom. I let my 6 year old watch this and he has seen Jurassic Park and other adult movies so I thought this would be ok. I had forgotten how gory it was. The scene where they went scuba diving and saw the dead guy absolutely terrorized my son, I’ve never seen him scared like that EVER and he cried after that scene. I felt so bad and mad at myself. My husband and I took turns with him because he couldn’t sleep that night. Anyways not okay for small kids :(

Jaws

I advise people not to pay attention to the 7+ reviews as they are just nonsense. Jaws is scary and violent. Lots of gushing blood and many jumpscares. We see cut off limbs everywhere, and a young boy around 11 yrs old on a yellow float is brutally gored to death. One of the three main character is eaten by the shark. Lots of blood sprays everywhere and it’s awful to watch. That aside, the movie has a good storyline and I would recommend it for older teens

Amazing movie- not much scariness. Just a lot of violence.

All parents out there need to know, this movie is not for kids who get easily scared. My 11-year-old son thought it was great and I think I will wait a little longer for my 8-year-old to watch it. Not very scary though, if your child doesn't easily get scared, they are double digits, and they WANT to watch, then this is the movie for them. Only a few questionable scenes- one when a dead body suddenly emerges from a sunken boat with one eye missing- not scary, just quite shocking. Another scene in the beginning when a female teen goes skinny dipping and is eaten, is quite intense, nothing is shone. Another 3 scenes when a character is falling into the mouth of the shark, are quite gory, and lots of screaming- once again, not scary but a little disturbing. The 2nd is when a boy is swimming on a raft and gets dragged under, with lots of blood that fountains up through the water. A man in a small boat gets eaten alive when trying to help 3 boys with their boat. His leg sinks to the bottom of the sea floor. Every violent scene is a little fake. All in all, great movie and fun if your child has all the requirements above filled up. DO NOT LISTEN to those ratings that are like: "This movie is very gory and violent! 16+!" Usually, the people who are doing the ratings are scardey cats. Common sense media overreacts A LOT. Like, what is wrong with this site? 13+??? No. 13+ is not the right rating. However, if your child is very easily frightened, listen to common sense. I guess the movie could have some educational value- you know, it could teach you about the challenges the fishing industry face. But, there is A LOT of drinking/drugs/smoking. I mean A LOT. Trust me, in the beginning of the movie, its boos on the house. Thank you for reading my review, Asher out.

Jaws is a great film but can cause a lot of fear of the water

This is a very gory movie and it is very famous but keep in mind it has traumatised many kids of going into the water and the relationship with water and mother-nature is important for your kid to have. 13 also wouldn't be a bad age to watch Jaws and even 12 for that matter of fact but as parents it's best to be extra-carful. There may be nudity in jaws but very brief as looking towards the cover. Drinking, drugs and smoking shouldn't disturb your child the most compared to the other things in Jaws. But Jaws is a very breathtaking movie that is quite old and a fun thriller to watch as a family providing your child/teen doesn't get scared. 15 or 16+ also works for Jaws but only for some kids who don't have much appreciation to gory stuff.

Skip the first scene and you are probably OK.

This is a very scary movie especially if you pick up on the subtle lines that get thrown around. It gets pretty gruesome, but mostly in a campy blood and guts sort of way. There are two exceptions. A ship captain is killed toward the end and it is very prolonged and disturbing. The second is the opening scene which is a solid R by any reasonable standard. Let's ignore the drugs and the dated treatment of drinking. Let's also ignore the total frontal nudity in this PG movie. The real problem is the psychosexual undertones in the shark POV cuts. We are treated to a literally faceless, naked, vulnerable woman from the perspective of a monster who is thinking "I'd like to attack and eat that." Skinny dipping is easy to explain away, as is hooligans smoking weed. But when your kid thinks that the girl getting attacked was scary but kind of felt weird, good luck with that.
