Tips for Making this Recipe

Allow the pastry dough to fully thaw. The pastry sheets come in a package of 2 that are frozen. You need to thaw them for at least 1 hour before using them. You can leave them out at room temperature for up to 2 hours.

Cut the apples into small pieces. You do not want large pieces of apples, they will not fit into the pastry cups easily if they are to big.

Variation of this recipe

This recipe is super easy to change up a bit. Stick with the basic recipe and then add things like chopped pecans, raisins, brown sugar, walnuts, and mix them in the pie filling mixture or sprinkle them on top.

How to Make Apple Puff Pastry

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Peel and chop the apples into tiny pieces and add them in a large bowl.

In the large bowl add the sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and lemon zest and mix well to coat all of the apples.

Roll out each sheet of puff pastry and then cut the pastry sheet into 8 squares using a sharp knife.

Spray your muffin pan with nonstick spray.

Place the pastry squares into a muffin tin, with 2 pieces of puff pastry per muffin cup being sure to space them out so each has room to expand. I like to use a large muffin tin so they have room to expand when they are baking in the oven.

Divide the apple mixture among the 8 muffin cups. Brush the pastry with the beaten egg.

Bake for10 to 15 minutes.

Remove from the oven and let cool for 10 minutes, until the pastry releases easily from the muffin tin. Serve warm.
